Scuba Tourism - The Future for Coastal Communities
Join Terry Dwyer, a modern day "Indiana Jones" for some adventures on the water, a fascinating and exciting presentation / workshop on the "business" and the "spin off" business created by a new, lucrative and mushrooming adventure tourism business. "Scuba Tourism" is an up and coming international business that requires a certain infrastructure of services and products are in place to cater to visiting divers. If your coastal community has the right combination of resources, Terry can help you assess, research and develop the proper infrastructure needed to tap this lucrative market and attract and retain a steady flow of international divers. Visiting divers provide an immense financial injection into any coastal community that has shipwrecks.
This exciting presentation details Eastern Canada's newest, most lucrative and mushrooming Adventure Tourism - "Scuba Tourism". Adventure Travel is one of the world's fastest growing tourism sectors. At the Canadian Tourism Commission, analysts believe that the worldwide demand for Adventure Vacations will continue to grow well into the next century, pushing these sector revenues higher every year. For example, in the recently released "Nova Scotia Marine Tourism Study", prepared by the Economic Planning Group of Canada, Scuba Diving was ranked number one of the top five marine tourism markets identified for Nova Scotia. The following recommendation was made; "It is an opportunity for Nova Scotia to promote a world class product among a very targeted user group". The report also recommended that further development be done on the scuba diving product.
Scuba Tourism offers the participant all the necessary ingredients that Adventure Travel has to offer; excitement, a level of risk, unique experiences, education and fun. It does however require that a certain infrastructure of services and products be in place to cater to visiting divers. Shipwrecks are non-renewable resources, scuba diving is an adventure sport that is equipment intensive and requires certain prerequisite skills and training.
Terry can help you assess, research and develop the necessary infrastructure and services you need to tap into this lucrative, growing market and attract a steady flow of divers.
The United Kingdom and the North Eastern U.S.A. are the two largest untapped markets for "Scuba Tourism" in the world. The U.K. is unquestionably the single largest cold-water scuba market in the world with over 150,000 recreational sport divers. The North Eastern United States has over 50,000 recreational sport divers.
One percent of the National Average equals 300 divers from the U.K. and 50 divers from the U.S. These divers will travel in groups of 8 to 16 and they will stay for 10 to 14 days per visit. This breaks down into 21 separate groups of 16 divers. The typical dive season for Nova Scotia is (May to October) 6 months or 24 weeks - That equates into almost 1 group a week. The economic benefits for a coastal community are staggering.
A single group of 8 to 16 divers will require and make use of the following:
Dive boats (1 to 2 boats a day for 12 days)
Accommodations (8 to 16 cottages, cabins or rooms per day for 12 days)
Rental vehicles (2 to 3 vans per day for 12 days)
Meals and beverages (16 to 32 meals per day for 12 days)
Plus local souvenir purchases, shopping and visits to various local attractions in the area
Scuba Tourism development in Eastern Canada offers enormous and untapped potential, with a vast selection of attractions, activities and accommodations, as well as the relative short flight time and the exceptional exchange rate.
